Lightning Kills 31 in Cambodia in First Half of 2025
"Among the dead so far this year were 11 females and three children," Soth Kim Kolmony, spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), told media.
Beyond the fatalities, thunderbolts wounded 53 additional individuals and killed 71 cattle throughout the January-June timeframe this year, he confirmed.
Siem Reap, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, and Preah Sihanouk provinces experienced the highest concentrations of lightning strikes.
To minimize lightning strike risks, residents—especially those in rural communities—should remain indoors or seek shelter during storms and rainfall, Kolmony advised.
Apart from lightning-related casualties, fires resulted in 22 deaths while storms took five lives during the year's first half, the spokesperson disclosed.
