Trump Vows to Strengthen Japanese Diplomatic Relations

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump declared Tuesday that American-Japanese diplomatic relations will achieve historic heights during bilateral discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo.

"I have always had a great love of Japan and a great respect of Japan, and I will say that this will be a relationship that will be stronger than ever before," Trump said.

The president promised absolute commitment to Tokyo, assuring Takaichi that America stands ready for "any question, any doubt, anything you want, any favors you need," characterizing both nations as partners operating "at the strongest level."

Trump further recognized Japan's substantial military expansion, highlighting that Washington has secured "orders for a very large amount of new military equipment."

Bilateral commerce has reached record-breaking figures as both governments prepare to formalize a fresh agreement that is "very fair," the president noted.

"I'd also like to congratulate you on being the first woman prime minister. That's a big deal," he said.

Takaichi expressed Tokyo's ambition "would like to realize a new golden age of the Japan-US alliance, where both Japan and the United States will become stronger and also more prosperous."

The prime minister praised Trump's "unwavering commitment towards peace and stability," asserting that within a compressed timeframe, "the world started to enjoy more peace on the ground."

Both governments "have developed the greatest alliance in the world, and together with you, Japan is ready to contribute towards peace and stability," she added.

Takaichi reaffirmed her position on utilizing diplomacy "to protect Japan's own national interests" while signaling preparedness to deepen collaboration with Washington toward their "shared goal of achieving a free and open Indo-Pacific."

The prime minister also pledged to bolster "Japan's national power, namely diplomacy, defense capabilities, economic power, technology, intelligence and human resources."

Takaichi additionally revealed her nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, media reported. Trump previously received nominations from multiple nations, including Pakistan, Azerbaijan and Cambodia.
